THE ONE-MINUTE ACTIVIST

Reversal:

This month in the One Minute Activist, we asked for your support for HR 875, the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009.

We may have gotten this one wrong.
What seems to be good idea may be overreaching.
We have been contacted by people who have serious concerns that this bill may place onerous regulatory burdens on people and groups - including small family farms and small food producers - that are the solution, not the problem.
Some of the licensing procedures, while they may seem reasonable, could be problematic for many small producers.

Since we started the One Minute Activist letter campaign in 1999, we have written over 100 letters on issues concerning food, food safety, cooperative, community and environmental issues.
This our first retraction.

We feel that this is important enough to ask that you contact your representatives and ask that HR 875 be revisited, or at least tabled until some of the provisions contained in the bill be reviewed.
