This month we ask President Obama to make clean energy a top priority.
President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,
NW Washington, DC 20500Dear President Obama,
We need to get our economy moving by building a clean energy future. I am encouraged by your promise to make energy issues a top priority, and urge you to announce a plan in your first 100 days that will reach the following goals:
- move to 100 percent electricity from clean sources such as wind and solar
- cut our dependence on oil in half
- create 5 million new clean energy jobs
- reduce global warming pollution by at least 80 percent
In November 2008, in front of more than 600 climate change leaders, you acknowledged the magnitude of the issue by saying,
"Few challenges facing America -- and the world -- are more urgent than combating climate change."
You also promised to reverse the past eight years of inaction by setting mandatory limits on global warming pollution when you took office.
I also urge you to use the federal budget and any economic recovery package to help achieve the above goals.
At this critical turning point, the country is counting on your leadership to channel American ingenuity into solving the economic, climate and energy challenges we now face.I thank you for your time and eagerly await your response.
