1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,
NW Washington, DC 20500Dear President Obama,
I am writing to express my appreciation for the unprecedented level of funding that your budget would provide to the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds.
It shows your strong commitment to protecting our valuable water resources. By repairing our country’s aging water infrastructure, we can protect human and environmental health, create jobs and give a needed boost to our ailing economy. To those ends, I want to tell you about a proposal that can sustain and bolster the support you have already shown.
A federal trust fund for safe and clean water would provide a steady, reliable and equitable source of funding for needed water projects across the nation.
By sidestepping the contentious appropriations process, a trust fund would safeguard our water infrastructure, our environment and our economy.
A bill to create such a trust fund will be introduced during the current legislative session. I am asking for your leadership on this issue. Our country needs a Clean Water Trust Fund to keep our water safe, clean and affordable now and for generations to come.
